Adnan ÖZKOCA

- A study was done about dilution and storage of ram semen at Lalahan Animal Breeding Research Institute. 75 ewes and two rams used as a material insemination of ewes began at 1, November 1961, ended at 1, December 1962. 68 ewes showed estrous signs and were inseminated during the study.

Ewes were inseminated with fresh ram semen at one estrus period only had % 61.7 conception rate. After second insemination of repeat ewes during second estrus period conception rate was % 70.58. Ewes were inseminated with diluted and stored ram semen at one estrus period only had % 35.3 conception rate. After second insemination of repeat ewes during second estrus period, conception rate was % 50.0

The ewes of Akkaraman breed were inseminated with fresh ram semen had % 52.9 conception rate. After second insemination of repeat ewes during second estrus period conception rate was % 64.7. The Akkaraman x Merino crossbred ewes inseminated with fresh ram semen had % 70.5 conception rate. After second insemination of repeat ewes during second estrus period conception rate was % 76.4

Akkarakan ewes were inseminated with diluted and stored ram semen had % 37.4 conception rate. After second insemination of the same ewes, conception rate was % 56.2. Akkaraman x Merino ewes had % 33.3 conception rate with first insemination. After second insemination conception rate was % 44.4.

Some differences was observed between old ewes and Virgin ewes in both breed. The old ewes were inseminated with fresh semen had % 60.0 conception rate. Conception rate of virgin ewes was % 85.7. diluted semen produced % 55.0 and % 42.8 conception rate previonly. Keywords :
