A comparative study on the physical and chemical structure of some feed stuffs

- The following tables gives the composition of 29 samples of feed analysed. These samples were collected from the various provinces of Turkey. Visual examination ond ocular tests were made. Precipitation tests were made using distilled water, diethyl ether, acetone, benzine, ammonia and ethyl alcohol. Samples of bran and sawdust were used. These were placed in separate flasks after first examining them for odor, color and appearance. No difference could be detected from this examination. It was possible to detect forign matter in the samples through the use of a lense. Precipitation results were the same for all three tests.

The ether extract was found to be lowest in crushed barley, aspir cake and wheat bran. The ash content lowest in crushed maize, maize bren and crushed barley. The amount of ether extract from the samples tested ranged from a low of 1.20 % to a high of 20 %. The cakes having the low ether extract content were produced by the extraction method and the high content was produced by other methods.

If a cake contains much ether extract then its coefficient of digestibility is decreased. We do not have a low which would require all livestock feeds sold to be analysed and the composition found included on a tag attached to eachsack of feed. Until this is done the livestock producers will not be protected from adulterated feeds. Keywords :
