A comparative study on the physical and chemical structure of some feed stuffs
The ether extract was found to be lowest in crushed barley, aspir cake and wheat bran. The ash content lowest in crushed maize, maize bren and crushed barley. The amount of ether extract from the samples tested ranged from a low of 1.20 % to a high of 20 %. The cakes having the low ether extract content were produced by the extraction method and the high content was produced by other methods.
If a cake contains much ether extract then its coefficient of digestibility is decreased. We do not have a low which would require all livestock feeds sold to be analysed and the composition found included on a tag attached to eachsack of feed. Until this is done the livestock producers will not be protected from adulterated feeds.
