Avian influenza is an infectious disease with high mortality in poultry. Causative agent of the disease are waterfowls which are the natural hosts of influenza A viruses. Turkey, due to the excess of wetlands, is one of the main accommodation areas of waterfowls and migratory birds. Especially the regions on the migration routes of migratory birds and poultry breeding areas are at risk for avian influenza. Nowadays, H5N1 infections can cause death in poultry and humans too. Culling of sick and suspected animals is the most important control method of avian influenza disease in the infected areas.
