2 Konya İli Damızlık Koyun Keçi Yetiştiricileri Birliği, Konya - The objective of this study, which was based on the data obtained during a five-year period between 2011-2016 from the Hair goat herds in Hadim and Taşkent district of Konya within the National Sheep and Goat Improvement Project, was to investigate growth and survival rate of Hair goat kids between birth and weaning.
The animal material of the study was consisted of total 25437 Hair goat kids. The goats were weighed at birth and around on 120th day. According to the data obtained from these measurements, the growth and survival rate of the goat kids were calculated. For the statistical analysis of the data, general linear model was used for growth and Khi-square test was used for survival ability.
For general average of five years, mean birth weight was 3.07 kg for male kids, and 2.96 kg for females; the mean weight on 120th day was 21.47 kg for male kids and 18.72 kg for female kids; the daily live weight gain for male and female kids were found as 154.5 g and 131.4 g respectively. The survival rate of the Hair goat kids showed changes according to years and the rate was generally (except 2012) found as 80.67%. The effects of year, dam`s age, birth type and sex on analyzed features were significant (P<0.001).
As a result, it was determined that the growth data were higher, while survival ability was consistent with the existing literature. It can be said that Hadim and Tashkent districts of Konya succeeded in Hairgoat breeding.
