A study on the some properties of Akkaraman wool and to determine suitable using possibilities ın Central Anatolia
Average values for Sivas, Kangal, Niğde, Konya and Ankara provinces and for all provinces were; 10.1, 6.9, 8.9, 9.0, 9.1 and 8.8 cm. for staple length; 35.0, 31.6, 29.9, 29.7, 30.6 and 31.4 microns for fiber diameter; 27.0, 21.1, 19.2, 18.7, 22.9 and 21.8 % for medullation (kempy, medullated and heterotype fiber); 21.3, 18.3, 15.1, 16.2, 17.8 and 17.7 gr for tensile strength; 25.8, 24.3, 24.0, 27.3, 25.0 and 25.3 % for elasticity; 4.4, 3.2, 4.4, 5.4, 5.0 and 4.5 % for wool grease respectively. Average greasy fleece weight and body weight at shearing in Kangal region were 2.12 kg and 48.7 kg.
The results indicate that the Akkaraman wool is most suited to carpet manufacturing, but it can be improved by selection and crossbreeding with fine-wool breeds for use in Textile Industry.
