The Comparıson of Turkish Merino and Lincoln x Turkish Merino (Fı ) Lambs ın Growth, Fattening and Carcass Characteristlcs. II. Fattening Characteristics

- This study has been conducted to investigate the fattening characteristics of Turkish Merino and Lincoln x Turkish Merino (Fı) lambs.

The data were obtained from 18 purebred and 18 crossbred ram lambs. Lambs were fattened in individual pens from 20 kg live weight to reach 35, 40 and 45 kg live weight. Lambs were fed with alfalfa hay 250 g per day per lamb and concentrated ad-libitum. The t test was used for comparison of the groups.

The average of daily live weight gain were found as 247.75 and 272.41 g (p<0.05), 256.95 and 266.59 g, 257.14 and 266.24 g; fattening period 62 and 56 day, 78 and 76 day, 98 and 95 day; daily consumption of concentrate 1.09 and 1.10 kg, 1.18 and 1.18 kg, 1.26 and 1.21 kg; feed efficiency number 4.47 and 4.07, 4.62 and 4.48, 4.93 and 4.55 at 35, 40 and 45 kg live weight for Turkish Merino purebred and Lincoln x Turkish Merino Fı crossbred ram lambs respectively.
