Some Fattening Characteristics of Dorset Down x Akkaraman (F1) and Border Leicester x Akkaraman (F1) Lambs

3 100. Yıl Üniversitesi, Veteriner Fakültesi, Van -TÜRKİYE - In this investigation, Dorset Down x Akkaraman (F1), Border Leicester x Akkarnman (F1) offsprings were compared in respect of fattening performance.
This investigation was carried out at the Research Farm of the University of Ankara, Faculty of Veterinary Medicine in 1989. The material of this research consisted of 47 heads of Dorset Down x Akkarnman (F1) single-born male crosses and 20 heads of Border Leicester x Akkaraman (F1) single born male lambs crosses.
The lambs were put to fattening at about a live weight of 22 kg and were fed until they reached 40 kg of live weight.
Lambs were fed throughout the fattening period concentrated feed (ad.libitum) and air dried alfa alfa hay (200 g/day per lamb).
The meat value of the live weight gains during this period were found as 319 g in the Dorset Down x Akkarnman (F1) lambs, 338 g Border Leicester x Akkaraman (F1) lambs.
Concentrated feed and alfa alfa hay. Consuption per kg of live weight gain was found 4.449 and 0.650 kg for Dorset Down x Akkaraman (F1), 4.372 and 0.526 kg for Border Leicester x Akkararnan (F1 ).
In accordance with the results of this investigation, it is concluded that, lamb production is possible by means of Dorset Down and Border Leicester male and Akkaraman female crosses.
