Newborn calf diarrhea is widely observed all over the world, leading to significant economic losses in the first 2-3 week periods in both dairy and beef cattle. Annually 6,000,000 calf was born in Turkey average economic losses to Turkey is about 3,15 billion ₺ / 525 million €. Clinical signs in newborn calf diarrhea differs; the virulence of the agent and other factors, as well as the age and immunological resistance of the calf plays a role. Calves are often born unprotected in an environment with many disease agents. Because of the special situation in the placenta of cows, the milk-specific protective substances (maternal antibody) pass through the colostrum, not via blood. According to the Livestock Welfare Regulation, calves that remain in the stall should be checked once a day at least to ensure that they are healthy.
