Effects of Different Tannin Sources on Feed Consumption, Live Weight Gain, Mohair Production and Quality of Angora Goats
2 Selçuk Üniversitesi Veteriner Fakültesi, Hayvan Besleme ve Beslenme Hastalıkları Anabilim Dalı-KONYA - This study was caried out to determine the feeding values of different tannin sources in feeding Angora goats. For this purpose Oak leaves, Broomcorn and waste of tea industry were used in three different experiments. In experiment 1. tannin and crude nutrition values of feed sources and cell wall analysis determined. Acording to the analysis, the tannin contents in dry matter, Oat hay, oak leaves, Broomcorn and tea waste were found 0.292 %, 8.020 %, 3.220 %, 7.890 % respectively. In experiment 2, digestion of Oat hay, Oak leaves, Broomcorn and Tea waste were determined in the experiment, 4 Akkaraman sheep at 18 mounth age were fed for each feed sources except Tea wastes because of having toxic effects on sheep. There weren`t differences between Oak leaves and Oat hay with Broomcorn (P>0.05) but there were significant differences among Oat hay and Broomcorn (P<0.05). Digestion rate of organic matter of Broomcorn was determined lower than Oat hay and Oak leaves (P<0.05). Digestion degree of crude protein of Oat hay (67.43 %) was found higher than Oak leaves (21.75%) and Broomcorn (15.71 %) (P<0.05). In experiment 3, 24 Angora goats were used to determine Mohair production and quality. Goats were seperated in 3 groups of having 8 in each. These groups were fed by the rations of having 600 g Oat hay + 900 g consantrated feed (Control group) and 400 g Local sorghum vulgare + 500 g consantrated feed + 600 g Oat hay (Sorghum vulgare) and 600g Oak Leaves + 900 g consantrated feed (Oak group). There was no difference among groups in body weight gain, mohair production and quality (P>0.05). In this study, it was concluded that Oak leaves would be used as forage in Angora goat rations. Instead of Oat hay which is middle quality and there were no significant effect on feed consumption and weight gain when sorghum vulgare used in consentrate feed mixture.
