Milk Yield and Reproductive Traits of Holstein Friesian Breeding Herds in Turkey
2 Ankara Üniversitesi, Ziraat Fakültesi, Zootekni Bölümü – ANKARA - The aim of this study was to calculate the descriptive values of milk yield and reproductive traits of Holstein Friesian cattle. Data on 32 367 lactations of 15 896 Holstein Friesian cows raised in 1.207 breeding herds in 17 provinces in Turkey were analyzed.
Age of first calving, calving interval, service period, length of productive life, life time calving number and the number of calving realized annually per cow were calculated as 28.4 ± 0.04 m, 401 ± 0.59 d, 121 ± 4.56 d, 25.2 ± 0.201 m, 2.23 ± 0.016 calving and 93 ± 0.12 %, respectively. From the same data group average 305 d milk yield 5 592 ± 9.7 kg, annual milk yield 5 203 ± 12.9 kg, lactation period 331 ± 0.4 d and dry period 74 ± 0.3 day were calculated.
