In this review article, the mechanism of Vit D-obesity relationship was tried to be clarified in the light of current information. This relationship begins with the demonstration of the presence of Vit D receptors in adipose tissue cells (adipocytes). The adipose tissue secretes hormones such as leptin, adiponectin and resistin and many inflammatory cytokines such as TNFα, IL-1β and IL-6 and CRP. In adipocytes, antiinflammatory pathways are induced by Vit D. Vit D regulates many adipogenic factors (adipokines) during differentiation, proliferation and maturation of mesodermal cells to adipocytes. Adipokines affect appetite and satiety, glucose and lipid metabolism, regulation of blood pressure, inflammation and immune functions. Vit D prevents inflammation by inhibiting phosphorylation of IKB and fatty translocation of NF[kappa]B in fat tissue. Obesity Vit D is excessively stored in the fatty tissue, the production of Vit D is reduced and the blood vit D level is lowered. Vit D insufficiency accelerates the fat grease of the adipose tissue by stimulating lipogenesis and providing calcium flow. As a result, fat tissue is inflamed and obesity develops. Visceral adipose tissue leads to hypertension, insulin resistance, diabetes and metabolic abnormalities of Vit D through the secretion of inflammatory adipokines such as IL, TNF-a, MCP-1 and resistin.
