3 Lalahan Hayvancılık Merkez Araştırma Enstitüsü - ANKARA - The purpose of this study was to investigate body weights after shearing and fleece traits of White Karaman, Kıvırcık x White Karaman F1 (KWF1), Chios x White Karaman F1 (CWF1), Kıvırcık x White Karaman B1 (KWB1), Chios x White Karaman B1 (CWB1), Karayaka and Bafra sheep. The data were analysed with least squares method. The least squares means for White Karaman, KWF1, CWF1, KWB1 and CWB1 sheep were 53.50, 54.12, 53.36, 50.24 and 49.16 kg for body weights after shearing; 2.18, 2.22, 2.15, 2.04 and 1.98 kg for greasy fleece weight, respectively. The differences among genotypes both body weights after shearing and greasy fleece weights were not statistically significant. The least squares means for Karayaka and Bafra sheep were 39.75 and 38.89 kg for body weights after shearing; 3.01 and 2.07 kg (P< 0.001) for greasy fleece weight, respectively. The least squares means for fiber diameter, staple length, breaking strength and fiber elasticity in all genotypes were also presented. In conclusion, body weights after shearing of White Karaman and crossbreed genotypes were similiar to each others. The fleece quality of White Karaman and crossbreed genotypes were suitable for carpet industry. Bafra genotype had lower means of fleece traits than Karayaka, but similiar body weight.
