Compost Bedded Barns in Dairy Cattle

The housing and management of cattle producing about 90% of milk production in the world are important issues. There are different housing systems for dairy cattle. Breeders are seeking new quests to increase animal welfare and reduce diseases due to barns. One of these housing systems is compost bedded barns. This system is very new in Turkey but it has been implemented nearly 20 years in some countries. It is reported that cows that are housed in this system are more comfortable, show their natural behavior, and have fewer illnesses. In this article, it is aimed to give detailed information about compost barns which are thought to be beneficial for all people interested in this subject.
