Using of fat in horse rations
2 Vet.Hek., Gıda, Tarım ve Hayvancılık Bakanlığı, Ankara - High-performance horses consume energy in great amounts during hunting, draught, races and heavy work. These horses generally consume high amounts of grain for the extra energy that is required. This high amount of grain consumption may lead to problems such as founder, constipation and other digestive problems. Considering the fact that the digestive tract has a limited capacity, the feed consumption will as well be limited. Oils and fats contain 2.25 times more energy than carbohydrates. Therefore, fats are recommended as energy resources to meet the energy requirements of horses. Keywords : Horse, nutrition, energy, fat
