Some morphological traits of Kilis, Norduz and Honamlı indigenous goats breeds
2 Ankara Üniversitesi Veteriner Fakültesi Zootekni Anabilim Dalı, Ankara - The aim of this study was to determine live weight, some body measurements and body hair color of Kilis, Norduz and Honamlı indigenous goat breeds. Animal material of the study was consisted of 46 Kilis goat, 45 Norduz goat and 37 Honamlı goat which were various age and sex. The least squares means for live weight, wither height, body length, rump height, chest depth, hearth girth and cannon bone circumference were 47.1 kg, 70.6, 71.9, 70.3, 31.9, 85.2 and 10.1 cm for Kilis goats; 38.8 kg, 65.3, 64.7, 65.0, 29.7, 87.4 and 9.8 cm for Norduz goats; 63.2 kg, 83.2, 82.6, 83.0, 35.0, 95.0 and 10.7 cm for Honamlı goats, respectively. The effects of age and sex on all investigated traits in Kilis goats were statistically significant (P<0.001), while the effects age and sex on live weight (P<0.001) and the effect of sex on wither height and hearth girth (P<0.01) and the effects of age on all investigated traits (P<0.05; P<0.01; P<0.001), the exception for cannon bone circumference and rump height, in Norduz goats were important. The effects sex (P<0.001) and age (P<0.05) on live weight and the effect of sex (P<0.001) on all body measurements and the effect of age on wither height, chest depth and cannon bone circumference (P<0.05) were significant in Honamlı goats. The almost whole of Kilis goats had black color of body hair, while the most frequent color of Norduz and Honamlı goats of coat color was black. On the other hand, some of Norduz goats had grey, brown, grayish brown, black-white and brown-white color of body hair, while some of Honamlı goats had grey and black-white coat color.
