- In this study, the realized heritabilities with the effect of selection on 5 weeks body weight of Japanese quail line between 7 th and 15 th generations were calculated with two different methods. The effect of selection for the fifth week body weight on fertility was investigated by using path coefficient in the same subgroups of Japanese quail lines.

The estimated heritabilites in females were 0.05 and 0.09 ± 0.02. The estimated heritabilites in males were 0.03 and 0.06 ± 0.02. The results showed that the antagonistic correlation between the body weight and fitness was not significant. The effects of direct and indirect factors on the number of offspring were also determined in significant. Keywords : Selection, Heritability, Fitness, Japanesi Quail
